General Questions
Powder coating is an environmentally friendly high-quality finish that is resistant to corrosion, abrasion, impact, heat, and chemicals along with having the ability to flex without paint cracking on the parts. Powder coating can also be more durable that liquid paints while withstanding extreme weather conditions and UV rays. In addition, powder coating is more cost effective. (no volatile organic compounds or solvents are released into the atmosphere)
Powder coating is a type of paint that is eletrostatically charged and applied to the surface of a grounded substrate (part) in powder form. Once the part is coated in powder, it is placed in an oven to cure/crosslink to form a hard polymerized surface.
Any parts made of aluminum, magnesium, steel, and other ferrous/non-ferrous metals can be powder coated.
In some cases. In order for the powder to bond to the substrate (part), it must have a clean surface. Existing un-sufficient finishes need to be removed from parts using media blasting or chemical stripping before a powder coat is be applied to ensure adherence. Powder can be applied over E-coating and other properly applied primer type coatings.
There are a multitude of colors and textures available in powder coating.
